Easy DIY Watercolor Gift Tags

DIY watercolor gift tags are simple, beautiful, and fun for all ages! With just a few supplies, you can create unique, colorful tags ideal for any occasion.

This project is perfect for book clubs, family gatherings, or a girls' night out. I made some with our grandson last year and it was a hit!

Here are the supplies you will need.

Supply List

Good quality heavy weight watercolor paper

Watercolor Set

A variety of brushes

Masking or painters tape: 1 inch wide

Scissors or a rotary cutter and ruler

Hole punch and a variety of ribbons

Note: Quality paper is important. I learned this the hard way! Low quality paper will warp when it is wet and tear when you remove the tape.

Instructions

1) Gather your supplies

2) Place masking or painters tape on your watercolor paper in rows.

3) Select colors from your watercolor set and add them to your palette.

4) Wet the paper with clean water.

5) Add color to the watery paper and let the pigment spread.

6) Let the paper dry completely. You can expedite the drying process with a hairdryer.

7) Load a bristle brush with white paint and splatter the paper with random dots.

8) When the dots are dry, gently remove the tape from the paper.

9) Cut the paper into tag shapes and punch a hole in the top of each tag.

10) Place a ribbon through the hole in each tag.

11) Add tags to packages with ribbon, leftover yarn, twine, or string!

I found these beautiful oak leaves in a park recently. I used them to decorate gifts for this post…but…after researching the galls, (the round ball attached to the leaf) I learned that they are homes for insect eggs (not seeds) and the insect will eventually emerge from the pod as an adult. Oops! I think we will enjoy them here in this photo, and then I will re-home them outside! Nature is fascinating!

I hope you enjoy adding a personal, hand-painted touch to your gifts this holiday season. Each tag is unique and handmade. Let your creativity go wild!
