Felt Leaves DIY for Table, Gift Wrap, and Garlands

Make these beautiful felt leaves in just a few hours and have them ready for your next Autumn gathering.

There are many ways to use them; table decor…gift wrap…or garlands!

Watch the video to see how they are made!

You will need:

Felt, scissors, sewing machine, thread, paper, pencil, ribbon, and small clothespins. You can also hand stitch these if you don’t have a sewing machine!

Instructions

1) Draw leaf shapes on paper or download royalty free images from web sites like this. You will need two sizes of each leaf pattern.

Note: Here is an easy way to trace your leaf designs….bring up the image you want to trace on your ipad or laptop screen. Place a piece of paper over the screen and trace your design. The computer/tablet makes a perfect light box for tracing. Then…scale your pattern down on the screen and trace the smaller leaf.

2) Cut out felt leaves using your patterns. Mix and match felt pieces to create a variety of color combinations.

3) Layer a small and large leaf together.

Note: I used variegated thread and lowered the feeddogs on my machine so I could move freely around the leaves as I stitched.

4) Stitch lines on the leaves. Start at the bottom of the stem and stitch the center line. As you reach the top of the leaf, move backwards along the same stitch line and then out toward each point. Continue down the center stitch line as you make vein lines on each side of the center line.

Make a garland

Use clothespins to attach your leaves to a piece of ribbon.

Use extra leaves to decorate your table or attach to a hostess gift.
